Lawrie Brewster is an award-winning Scottish filmmaker, director, and producer best known for his bold contributions to modern British horror, as covered by the BBC, The Guardian and Variety.
As the founder of the British Horror Studio, Lawrie is a leading voice in independent genre cinema, celebrated for his distinctive Gothic visual style, psychological storytelling, and dedication to community-driven filmmaking.
From humble beginnings, Lawrie carved out his niche by creating a cinematic universe steeped in folklore, fear, and fantasy. His breakout film, Lord of Tears – reviewed here by Bloody Disgusting, introduced audiences to the haunting figure of the Owlman and won multiple awards, establishing Brewster as a horror auteur with a love for myth and legend.
He is the founder of Hex Studios, which he co-leads alongside writer and long-time collaborator Sarah Daly, and currently serves as President of the newly revived Amicus Productions, under authorisation from the Subotsky Estate.
